Prime Minister Ünal met with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Üstel: “Shoulder to shoulder with Turkey, we are determined make the TRNC stronger.”
Nicosia, February 27, 2026 (TAK): Prime Minister Ünal Üstel met with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.
He also met separately with the Vice President of Turkey, Cevdet Yılmaz.
Ünal Üstel described the meetings as friendly, constructive and based on mutual trust.
According to a readout issued from the Prime Minister’s office, at the meeting with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, strategic cooperation and brotherly ties between the two countries and visions for the TRNC were discussed.
Political stability, investments for infrastructure and joint steps towards growth targets were also covered.
At the meeting with Cevdet Yılmaz, supplementary protocols to the protocol signed with Turkey on developing a fiber optic network in TRNC and the next Economic and Financial Protocol were talked through.
The Prime Minister said the atmosphere of the meetings was friendly, constructive and based on mutual trust.
He described the relations with Turkey beyond financial cooperation and vital to Turkish Cypriot people.
“This relationship was built on mutual affection, respect and shared history. No attempt to weaken these ties can succeed,” he said.
Üstel added that the cooperation between the two countries would continue, from security to infrastructure, from economy to digitization. “Shoulder to shoulder with Turkey, we are determined make the TRNC stronger,” he stated.
